UPDATE: Alabama Tornado Related Fatality Report

MONTGOMERY – The number of storm-related deaths in Alabama as a result of the April 27th Tornado outbreak now stands at 238, up from 236 last reported by the Alabama Emergency Management Agency. Two additional fatalities have been confirmed in Marion County.

On May 1, Governor Bentley ordered a statewide verification of the confirmed total number of fatalities. That verification process is now complete.

“As a physician, I understand the difficulties and enormity of the tasks faced by local coroners, physicians, and law enforcement officials in their efforts to identify the number of people who died as a result of this tragedy,” said Governor Bentley.

“This unprecedented natural disaster presented our local officials with the overwhelming task of verifying a large number of deaths,” said EMA Director Art Faulkner.
