Governor Bentley Comments on Election of Interim Superintendent of Education

MONTGOMERY—Governor Robert Bentley released the following statement after today’s special called board meeting of the State Department of Education where Larry Craven was elected as the Interim Superintendent of Education:

“Larry is already familiar with the workings of the Department of Education and the State Board of Education. Having someone from within the department serve as Interim Superintendent will ensure that we have no disruption in the education system as we begin a new school year. I want to commend the dedicated members of the State Board of Education in making sure there is a smooth transition for educators, students and administrators in Alabama.”

Craven will temporarily fill the role currently held by Dr. Joe Morton who will retire effective August 31st.
