Octavia Spencer Day

WHEREAS, Octavia Spencer was born and raised in Montgomery, Alabama, graduating from Jefferson Davis High School; and

 WHEREAS, having studied drama, she received her Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts from Auburn University; and

 WHEREAS, Octavia Spencer began her acting career with a role in the 1995 movie “A Time To Kill,” and has since starred in an assortment of films, television shows and plays; and

WHEREAS, playing the role of “Minny” in the 2011 film “The Help,” Octavia Spencer won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in a motion picture and the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress in a motion picture; and

WHEREAS, Octavia Spencer is one of only nine actresses to date to win the Critic’s Choice Award, Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild Award, a BAFTA award and an Academy Award all in the same year; and

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim March 21, 2012, as

Octavia Spencer Day

in the state of Alabama, and recognize her outstanding achievements and offer her best wishes for continued success in all future endeavors.
