Alabama Cooperative Soil Survey Partnership

WHEREAS, the State of Alabama is dedicated to promoting the conservation and wise use of our soil, water, air, plant and animal resources to the end that these natural resources may be used and enjoyed by Alabamians forever; and

WHEREAS, the Alabama Cooperative Soil Survey partnership has worked together for over a century to cooperatively investigate, inventory, document, classify and interpret the soils of Alabama and disseminate, publish and promote the use of information about the soils of Alabama; and

WHEREAS, the soil data provided by the Alabama Cooperative Soil Survey partnership is used by Alabamians to judiciously and efficiently manage land for agriculture and for rural community development and to understand, protect and enhance the environment; and

WHEREAS, it has long been the objective of the Alabama Cooperative Soil Survey to provide an inventory of the state’s soil resources that is complete, current and meets the needs of other users; and

WHEREAS, a general soils map for Alabama was completed in 1929; a comprehensive and detailed county level soil survey was completed in 2012; and a “next generation” seamless and web-based soil survey for Alabama has begun:

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim January 2012 through July 2012 as the period for celebrating the next generation of the

Alabama Cooperative Soil Survey Partnership

in the state of Alabama and recognize the accomplishments and initiatives of the partnership.
