Alabama National Cemetery

WHEREAS, for two hundred and thirty-five years, our Nation’s liberty has been protected and preserved by the men and women who have served in the Armed Forces of the United States of America; and

WHEREAS, more than one million Americans, including thousands of Alabamians, who stood on the front lines of freedom, made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of liberty’s blessings; and

WHEREAS, as a grateful Nation, we remember America’s fallen by celebrating and commemorating their lives; and

WHEREAS, 420,000 Veterans live in Alabama and an estimated 10,500 of them pass away each year; and

WHEREAS, for the next 50 years the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo will serve as the final resting place for the men and women who bravely defended our Nation’s freedom: 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim the year 2012 as the Fourth Anniversary of the

Alabama National Cemetery

in the state of Alabama.
