Ride4Gabe Day
WHEREAS, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) is the number one genetic killer of young boys in America; and
WHEREAS, there is a tremendous need to raise awareness for this disease, because it is 100 percent fatal without a cure currently; and
WHEREAS, Michael Staley and Wes Bates are riding their bicycles form Oregon to Alabama, a trek called Ride4Gabe, to bring the needed awareness to DMD and for Gabe Griffin. Gabe is a nine-year-old from Alabama who suffers from this debilitating disease; and
WHEREAS, the state of Alabama is honored to welcome and recognize the cyclists who are engaged in such a worthy cause; and
WHEREAS, Gabe Griffin shows us what real courage and strength is, inspiring us all as he shows the world he is not afraid of challenges and is fighting valiantly to overcome obstacles and roadblocks:
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim August 11, 2014, as
Ride4Gabe Day
in the state of Alabama and encourage all citizens to bring awareness to Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and support the cyclists in their journey across the country to help and honor Gabe Griffin.
