WHEREAS, every day, caregivers demonstrate extraordinary vigilance, dedication, patience and love in helping individuals and families with chronic conditions or disabilities; thereby assisting with personal care, overseeing medications, nutritional sustenance, advocacy during medical appointments or hospital stays, from physical help with household chores to providing emotional support; and

WHEREAS, an estimated 818,000 family caregivers in Alabama are providing over 783 million hours of uncompensated care each year, thus constituting over $7 billion in savings to the federal and state government; and

WHEREAS, the Alabama Cares Program, administered by the Alabama Department of Senior Services, provides support through education and training of caregivers, counseling and assessment of caregiver needs, respite assistance and supplemental services such as home-delivered meals, nutritional supplements, chore services and transportation; and

WHEREAS, National Family Caregivers Month is an opportunity to recognize those who serve a cause greater than self and contribute to the well-being of their loved ones and to support the participation of family, friends, neighbors, and fellow citizens in the associated caregiving activities and programs throughout the state; and

WHEREAS, during National Family Caregivers Month, we recognize and celebrate the many individuals throughout our state and country who work each day to ensure a better quality of life for their family members. Through their selfless action, these caregivers provide loved ones support and comfort as they age, combat illness, or suffer from disability:

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim November 2014, as
