EXECUTIVE ORDER NUMBER 5, Amendment Number 1

WHEREAS, the provisions of Section 31-2-41 and Section 31-2-77, Code of Alabama (1975), authorize the Governor of Alabama to establish additional Alabama awards;

WHEREAS, members of the Alabama National Guard and Alabama citizens who are not members of the Alabama National Guard willingly and selflessly serve at the call of our Governor; and

WHEREAS, members of the Alabama National Guard and Alabama citizens provide an invaluable service to the Great State of Alabama through numerous activities which display their exceptional professionalism.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of the State of Alabama, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the State of Alabama, find, declare and order that the Governor’s Cross Medal be established.  Recommendation for the award may be made by the Adjutant General of the Alabama National Guard to the Governor for his approval.  The award for Alabama citizens shall be made by the Governor.  Criteria for this award is based solely on the desire of the Governor to recognize exceptional National Guard members, or civilians of the State of Alabama, who perform above and beyond the call of duty and whose service reflects great credit to the Alabama National Guard or the State of Alabama.  This award will have the highest precedence of all state awards.
