EXECUTIVE ORDER NUMBER 26

WHEREAS, in 1997 and 2008, respectively, the Information Services Division (ISD) and State Business Systems (SBS) Division of the Alabama Department of Finance were created pursuant to Section 41-4-37 of the Alabama Code;

WHEREAS, ISD and SBS administer the responsibilities of the Department of Finance, Division of Data Systems Management (DSM Division), Alabama Code, Section 41-4-220, et seq., and of the Department of Finance, Telecommunications Division, Alabama Code, Section 41-4-280, et seq.;

WHEREAS, the Alabama Office of Information Technology (OIT) was created pursuant to Section 41-28-2 of the Alabama Code;

WHEREAS, the Secretary of OIT is charged with collaborating and coordinating with various agencies, authorities and boards, including the DSM and Telecommunications Division, on issues related to information technology; and

WHEREAS, increased integration between OIT and ISD will enhance operational efficiency and resiliency, further the State’s goal of service delivery transformation, as well as streamline the state’s decisional structure for information technology.

NOW, THEREFORE, based upon these considerations, and for other good and valid reasons related thereto, I Robert Bentley, Governor of the State of Alabama, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the State of Alabama, do hereby request OIT and ISD to develop and implement a plan that posits the Office of Information Technology as the lead agency on information technology.

BE IT FURTHER ORDERED that this Executive Order shall become effective immediately upon its execution and shall remain in effect until amended or modified by the Governor.
