MONTGOMERY (Governor’s Office) – Governor Robert Bentley on Tuesday awarded a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to the City of Monroeville. The grant, totaling $300,000, will be used to provide site and drainage improvements to property owned by MillenniumBlok International, Inc.

The funding provided by the CDBG will also enable MillenniumBlok International, Inc. to create 100 new jobs for Monroeville and the surrounding area. MillenniumBlok International, Inc. is a producer of composite insulated concrete, a light weight, and highly insulated, sound resistant and fire resistant product for use during construction.

“Economic development is vital in any community, but especially our rural communities,” Governor Bentley said. “I am proud to award a grant that will create jobs and improve the quality of life for many in Monroeville and Monroe County. Job creation is just another way we make Alabama a great state.”

CDBG grants are made available through the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA).

“Jobs for rural Alabama are critical to Alabama’s overall success,” ADECA Director Jim Byard, Jr. said. “I commend Monroeville Mayor Joseph Oglesby and other city leaders for partnering with ADECA to help create 100 jobs for Monroe County. By providing funds for site and drainage improvements, ADECA is helping with the long-term growth for the city.”

The CDBG program provides communities with resources to meet development needs and affects the lives of millions of people throughout the country.
